Phytoremediation of polluted soil with hyperaccumulators is one of important approached for soil contaminated by heavy metals.Due to soil for phytoremediation without being cultivated,it is difficulty for farmers in China.Pot experiments were conducted with intercropping system of Sonchus asper(L.)Hill.and crops(maize and broad bean)(M-H intercropping system and B-H intercropping system)in order to understand the effects of intercropping system on Cd accumulation in crops and hyperaccumulator. The results showed that growth of maize and S.asper in M-H intercropping system were improved comparing with plants in monoculture system. The biomass of S.asper and maize increased by 4.8%-64.9%and 4%-33%,respectively.Cd contents in S.asper of M-H intercropping system increased by 31.4%-79.7%.Cd contents in maize of M-H intercropping system decreased by 18.9%-49.6%.Significant positive relationships between soil available Cd contents and contents of Cd in roots, stem and leaves of maize of M-H intercropping system were observed. The transfer coefficient of roots, stem and leaves of maize ofM-H intercropping system decreased by 21%,71%and 25%.Cd content in S.asper of B-H intercropping system decreased by 32.6%and in broad bean increased by 38.0%.That suggested that different intercropping system should be different responses on Cd accumulation in hyperaccumulator and crops. It is important to understand the mechanisms of Cd accumulation in hyperaccumulator and crops in intercropping system.
