Haematopietic stem cells transplantation has now reached her history of 21 yrars in Hong Kong. Like all countries around the world, only related donors or autologous haematopietic stem cells were used for the transplantation at its beginning at 1990 and only traditional bone marrow harvest was performed. But shortly after that, the need of unrelated donors for transplantation started when a small child Little Gardon“小歌顿”game hark to Hong Kong to search for donor. Since then, a group of doctors and peoples gathered together to form the ever first Chinese unrelated donor registry to recruit the Hong Kong Chinese to become unrelated donors. This wave has influenced a lot of Hong Kong citizens and within, very shorttime, more 14.400 people registered. The success had then driven them to form the Hong Kong Marrow Match Foundation, a charitable organization to recruit donors, to search for matched donors, to co-ordinate haematopietic stem cells donation from Hong Kong and overseas donors. The latter has getting moreimportant concern as lcating a suitable matched donor in Hong Kong was just estimated to he 1 in 5000.
