  Porous silicon has been demonstrated to store hydrogen at 6.6 percent by weight.Two challenges include rapid synthesis and strategic introduction of a spillover catalyst.Both are addressed in this paper.Silicon can be made porous at the nanometer scale,approximately 800 m2/g,via electrochemical etching in hydrofluoric (HF) acid.
