The lower lumbar and sacral spinal cord is important to controlling the function of the large intestine,the pelvic muscle,and the reproductive organs and also is intimately associated with bowel,bladder,and sexual dysfunction.The major related structures are the dorsal commissural nucleus(DCN),Lissauers tract(LT),dorsal horn and intermediolateral column(IML)which occupied by parasympathetic nucleus.The sacral parasympathetic nuclei are a part of autonomic nervous system to regulate the urogenital organs.Sex hormones modulate the functions and morphology of the lumbosacral spinal cord innervated to pelvic viscera.
