The granitic gneisses in the cores of north Himalayan gneiss domes (NHGD) and the crest of high Himalaya are a part of the greater Himalayan crystalline complex (GHC).The mineral compositions of quart,plagioclase,K-feldspar,biotite,muscovite and minor garnet, together with the texture, indicate their protoliths to be granites.LA-ICPMS zircon U-Pb dating of six representative samples of the gneisses reveals that the granites formed at ca.500-473 Ma,implying a long-lasting magmatism in early Paleozoic in GHC.
