Homogenization is an important process for non-heat-treatable wrought aluminium alloys. It controls the solid solution level of alloying elements, the type, size and distribution of constituent particles and, in particular, dispersoids, which have strong influences on the deformation properties, softening behavior, texture, formability and the mechanical properties of the final products. An overview is given on the microstructure evolution during heating, holding and cooling processes of homogenization treatment.A special emphasis is given to the precipitation behavior of dispersoids and its influence on recrystallizaiton.
