A new efficient and renewable adsorbent polyethyleneimine cellulose copolymer (PEI-cell) was prepared by grafting functional polymers polyethyleneimine on the surface of cellulose (Fig.1).The solid adsorption materials have both the excellent properties of porous cellulose,such as resource available worldwide,high superficial area,fine mechanical property,chemical and thermal stability[1],as well as good sorption properties for some species of heavy metals.Scanning electron microscope of PEI-cell balls showed that particle size of PEI-cell balls was larger and porous,the complexation reaction of metal ions with amino occur in these regions; therefore the accessibility of metal ions would be higher.Infrared analysis (IR) of cell-PEI bolls revealed –CH2 and –CH3 groups on the surface of PEI-cell had increase than that of cellulose.The relative absorbance of PEI-cell obviously increases as compared with that of epoxy- cellulose,which proved the existence of amine groups.The adsorption experimental results showed that PEI-cell possessed of better adsorption ability,the maximum adsorption capacity were 70.5 mg/g and 347.2 mg/g for Cr3+ and Fe3+ in optimal conditions,respectively;
