Seismic results have consistently shown two prominent low-velocity anomalies in the Earths lower mantle with one beneath Africa and the other beneath Pacific.I will present seismic results on the geometry,structural feature and velocity structure of these two anomalies,which have changed our view of these two anomalies from two young thermal superplumes to geologically stable compositional anomalies in the lowermost mantle.I will also discuss their implications to mantle dynamics,thermo-chemical plume,geochemistry and Earths evolution.
