Potato,the edible starchy tuber Solanum tuberosum L.,is the fourth most important food crop in the world after wheat,rice,and corn and is propagated predominantly by asexual method (tubers and mini tubers).However,propagation by true seed is primarily used for breeding purposes and genetic studies.The traditional methods for asexual propagation of the plant face important obstacles including contamination of tubers and plants in addition to decreased crops.Therefore,the seed tubers may be replaced by microtubers produced through tissue culture.
