Sevoflurane, which is the most commonly used volatile anesthetic in infants, has been reported to cause long-term memory impairment1 in neonatal rats. However, the mechanism is unclear.α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7nAChR) is one of the targets of volatile anesthetics2,and N-Methyl-D-Aspartate (NMDAR) plays an important role in LTP.
