Nickel was electrodeposited successfully from NiCl2-1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolcium chloride ionic liquid.Cyclic voltametric (CV) studies on the system revealed that the reduction of nickel takes place around -0.72V at 150℃ and oxidation of nickel occurs around 0.1V.To understand the temperature effect on the electrodeposition process,CV was performed by altering the temperature of the electrolyte.Chronoamperometric studies showed that a nucleation and growth phenomena takes place on applying overpotential. The overpotential deposition (OHP) and the underpotential deposition (UHP) were studied in detail which is explained in the paper.
