Seabed minerals, an important source of REY (rare earths and yttrium), have attracted the interest of a large number of researchers. A large number of surveys of the distribution and properties of rare earth elements in deep sea slime and nodules show that the rare earth resources are exceptionally rich. However, there are still many controversies about its causes. Bernat (1975) found that manganese nodules showed a positive Ce anomaly and a rare earth abundance that was 1/10 of the fish wreckage. The rare earth content of phillipsite zeolite is two to three orders of magnitude lower than the fish wreckage. Toyoda and Tokonami (1990) on the occurrence of fish debris and apatite particles
