Heart rate variability (HRV) and an average heart rate (HR) may exhibit different prognostic power in different genders.Additionally HRV is significantly associated with HR, however this relationship is partly physiologically and partly mathematically determined. The latter is due to the mathematical non-linear relationship between R-R interval and HR.By the mathematical modification one may strengthen or weaken the relationship between HRV and HR-this enables us to explore the HR contribution to the HRV prediction power. In our study we investigated the prognostic power of HR and its contribution to the prognostic power of HRV in men and women after myocardial infarction.
