Composite specimens with different porosities were fabricated by changing curing pressures in an autoclave. The morphology and ultrasonic attenuation characteristics of these specimens were respectively studied by optic microscopy and ultrasonic non-destructive inspection. The void size observed in these specimens is from dozens of microns to 100 microns, and the specimen with higher porosity has generally larger size of voids. The ultrasonic attenuation was enhanced as the thickness and porosity increase. The results of ultrasonic A and C scan show that different equipments and testing methods may cause difference in the curves of ultrasonic attenuation vs.porosity.As the porosity of composite components is inspected with ultrasonic non-destructive inspection, the same method and equipment for obtaining the curve should be used.
