Surveys of Cryptosporidium and Giardia spp.have been rarely performed in companion animals of China in spite of their significance for public health.A total of 188 fecal samples from five veterinary clinics and 33 private owners in Zhengzhou,China, were examined. The overall prevalence of Cryptosporidium and Giardia was 2.1% (4/188) and 2.7% (5/188),respectively.4 Cryptosporidium:positive specimens and 5 Giardia:positive specimens were characterized at the species/genotype.Cryptosporidium:positive specimens were analyzed by DNA sequencing of the small subunit rRNA gene and HSP 70 gene,4 of the samples were identified as C.felis.The distribution ofGiardia duodenalis genotypes and subtypes was assessed by sequence analysis of the triosephosphate isomerase (TPI) gene and (GDH).The assemblages F were found in all positive specimens.More system -atic studies are needed to understand the transmission of Cryptosporidium and G.duodenalis in cats in China.
