Cerebral venous and sinus thrombosis (CVST) is a rare condition which accounts for <1% of all strokes.Unlike arterial stroke, CVST most often affects young adults and children. The estimated annual incidence is 3 to 4 cases per 1 million population and up to 7 cases per 1 million among children.More than 80 percent of all patients now have a good neurologic outcome. But there is still 5-15 % of patients died from the disease. The poor prognosis usually resulted from acute and severe CVST and we had little knowledge about its mechanism and also lacked enough effective interventional measures. To severe CVST, anticoagulation therapy often had little effect.Although there is no sufficient evidence, until now most researches support the use of thrombolysis in patients with severe CVST.
