Coccidiosis, caused by Eimeria spp.,is a common and significant disease in pigeons worldwide especially caused high mortality in young individuals. The present study conducted a survey of pigeons for infection with Eimeria species of coccidia in Guangdong province, southern China from June to August 2012,including the breeds of the United States and Danish.A total of 209 fecal samples (102 from Huizhou,83 from Jiangmen and 24 from Guangzhou, respectively) in three farms were collected.Eimeria oocysts were seen in 202 (96.7%) fecal samples, with one species, namely E.labbeana.The prevalence ofE.labbeana in different months varied ranging from 90.36.7% to 95.80%,and the highest prevalence was in August. While age groups which less than 6 months old (100%) showed obviously high infection than adult ones (93.6%).The farm in Jiangmen that embraced better management level showed a bit low infection rate than the other two farms. The present survey indicated the wide and severe prevalence of Eimeria infection in Guangdongpigeons, which suggested that integrated measures should be taken to control and prevent coccidiosis of pigeons industry in this province.
