Seeds sown in cold soils are often exposed to numerous environmental hazards during germination and emergence.Low soil temperature present a major limitation for early production of swwet corn for exportation.Attempts have been made to reduce the time between sowing and emergence on the premise that reducing the exposure of seeds to suboptimal growing conditions will result in improved crop stands.Of the many methods devised, the use of seed priming for imbibition appears to hold the most potential for inducing early and synchronous germination of seeds.Priming enables seeds to germinate at temperatures lower than those at which untreated seeds will germinate.
