Because of its environmental benefits and renewable characteristics, biodiesel has become very attractive as an ideal alternative for fossil fuel in China.Jatropha curcas L.(JCL) is widely viewed as a promising feedstock for biodiesel, considering its good characteristics and extensive plantation on marginal land in China.Due to the lack of dynamic analysis in Chinas biodiesel industry, the evolution of the JCL biodiesel industry needs to be studied.This paper presents a dynamic model built through a system dynamics approach, including JCL plantation, biodiesel production and by-product utilization sub-systems.The model is used to analyze the JCL biodiesel industry in Yunnan province in southwestern China over the next 35 years.The results show that development is slow before 2020 and that rapid growth emerges later.In addition, three scenarios regarding corporate investment decisions and financial policy are employed to analyze the impact on the development of the biodiesel industry.
