Y2O3∶Eu3+ monodispersed spheres have been calcined from the(Y0.95Eu0.05)(OH)CO3·nH2O precursors synthesized via urea-based homogeneous precipitation(UBHP)from mixed solutions of the component nitrates in the presence of NH4NO3.A facile particle size control in the wide range of~160-600 nm can be achieved under a proper urea/cation molar ratio and a proper NH4NO3/cation molar ratio.Calcining at 1000 ℃ yields(Y0.95Eu0.05)2O3 phosphor of their original precursor morphologies. The thus-synthesized highly uniform phosphor spheres tend to undergo self-assembly and close-packing by spin coating, yielding a phosphor film with a structural feature observed for photonic crystals, which exhibits a stronger red emission at ~613 nm than that of the powder form.
