To explore the effect of long term low level benzene exposure on oxidative stress and the sensitive biomarker of oxidative damage in the occupational population exposure to low level benzene.A questionnaire survey and the occupational health examination were performed and blood routine, ALT, 8-isoprostaglandin (8-epi-PGF2á),8-hydroxy-deoxyguanosine (8-OhdG), MDA indicators were detected for workers exposed to low level benzene in a certain painting industry.Compared with the control group, white blood cells decreased in the exposure group, but the difference was not statistically significant(P>0.05);serum ALT levels and 8-epi-PGF2á levels were significantly increased in the exposure group, the difference were statistically significant(P<0.05).8-OhdG and MDA levels in the exposed group were higher than control group, but the difference was not statistically significant (P<0.05).In conclusion, oxidative damage indicators are earlier and more sensitive indicators than the blood routine in population exposed to the low level benzene.8-epi-PGF2á is an early and sensitive biomarker of oxidative damage in population exposed to the low level benzene.
