The trait of multilocularsiliques of Brassica are considered advantageous because the multilocular type potentially produces more seeds per silique than the bilocular type,increasing the seed yield.In Brassica rapa,multilocularsiliquesare the result of spontaneous mutations that are controlled by a recessive gene on the A4 chromosome.Here, we report the isolation and functional characterisation of the multilocularsilique gene (m14) in B.rapavar.
