The Markedness Differential Hypothesis confesses that differences between L1 and L2 lead to difficulties for L2 learners.Based on the markedness of the L2,it predicts areas of difficulty and the level of difficulty.The present study aims to test the predictability of the hypothesis with an analysis of the acquisition of onset consonant clusters in English by native Chinese EFL learners.
