  1-Bromopropane (1-BP) has been used as an alternative to ozone-depleting solvents such as chlorofluorocarbons, which is used widely as cleaning agents for metal parts, paraffin and fat solvent, and also an important chemical material.However, accumulating evidences from human and animal studies indicated that 1-BP exhibit potent neurotoxicity, and the central nervous system (CNS) toxicity was earlier than and peripheral nervous system (PNS) toxicity.Although the molecular mechanism of CNS disorders remains elusive, the studies from human suggested that oxidative stress might have a causative role, instead of being an epiphenomenon of the pathological processes in the pathogenesis of many human neurodegenerative diseases.
