In search of alternative artificial photosynthesis systems, naturally-occurring self-organised photoactive systems are an obvious source of inspiration.Aggregated species are fundamental to many different systems in nature, for example in light-harvesting antennas of photosynthetic plants and bacteria. Many structurally diverse photosynthetic antenna exist in nature. However all feature highly ordered arrays of pigments, thus allowing for transfer efficiencies of excited energies to reach more than 95%.
