The devastating earthquake and tsunami of March 11,2011 left more than 18 million tons of debris (not including sediments) in the stricken areas.About 34％ of the debris (12 million tons) has been temporarily stored in the areas for more than one and half year after the disaster.Long storage of the debris has risks for the people who live in the surrounding areas.
