The copolymerization of thiophene and benzanthrone was successfully achieved by the direct anodic oxidation of the monomer mixtures in the binary solvent system containing boron trifluoride diethyl etherate (BFEE) and acetonitrile. The influences of the monomer feed ratio and the applied polymerization potential on the synthesis of the copolymers were investigated, respectively, and the optimal feed ratio together with the best suitable applied polymerization potential was determined. The insertion of benzanthrone units into polythiophene was helpful for improving the fluorescence property of polythiophene.
