Spinal cord injury (SCI) is still a challenge in medical research and a global therapeutic problem. As a common injury,SCI often leads to irreversible physical defects that seriously influence the quality of life of patients and introduce heavy burden to their family and society.SCI principally comprises two kinds of pathological processes, namely, primary and secondary injuries.Primary injury resulting mainly from accidents,high-altitude falls, and high-energy violence is often irreversible and may result in difficulties in the nerve function recovery process after SCI.By contrast,SCI secondary injury involving oxi-dative stress, immune regulation disorder, inflammatory reaction, neuronal autophagy, and apoptotic activity is a potential target in the treatment of SCI (Li et al.,2016).
