Background Bare metal (BMS) and drug-eluting stents (DES) have decreased the need of target vessel revascularization (TVR) in primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI),at the expense of the risk of stent thrombosis (ST).This study evaluates a paclitaxel drug-eluting balloon (DEB) only strategy in PPCI,aiming at a historical comparison with BMS alone,DEB followed by BMS,and paclitaxel DES,as assessed in the randomized Drug Eluting Balloon in Acute ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (DEB-AMI) trial.
