Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) has been shown to exert protective effects against damage to different organs caused by various stimuli.However, the potential effects of H2S on oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD/R)-induced neuronal apoptosis and its mechanisms remain unclear.Here, we exposed mouse cortical neurons to OGD/R conditions (4-h OGD followed by 12-h reoxygenation).We found that pretreatment with NaHS prevented OGD/R-induced the activation of caspase-3 and neuronal apoptosis, which were also inhibited by DEVD-CHO.Taken together, these findings suggest that H2S prevents OGD/R-induced apoptosis via inhibition of caspase-3 activation in mouse cortical neurons.
