Xylariaceae Tul.& C.Tul.is one of the most common family in Xylariales, Sordariomycetes, Ascomycota, and more than 1200 species have been reported in the world.The family is characterized by perithecial ascomata embedded in more or less well-developed stromata, cylindrical asci with an amyloid apical ring, and one-celled, dark-brown ascospores with a germ slit.The members of the family Xylariaceae are important components of forest ecosystems, where they grow on wood and decompose woody structures.
