We demonstrate carbon dots with tunable photoluminescence embeded in sodium borosilicate monolithic gel by sol-gel method and produce white light when directly combined with commercially available blue light emitting diodes. The carbon dots with tunable photoluminescence for these experiments were synthesized by one-pot pyrolysis method. The characterization of the resulting carbon dots monolithic gel was accomplished by using FTIR, transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectrum. The fluorescence spectroscopies measurement showed carbon dots have highly fluorescence, and carbon dots monolithic gel also shows highly fluorescence with excitation-dependent emission.Meanwhile, The emission color is tunable by variations of carbon dots concentration in sodium borosilicate monolithic gel.To present, the carbon dots monolithic for white-emitting LED is never reported before. And now we synthesised carbon dots monolithic gel has the maximum luminous efficacy exceeding 61 lm/W at the correlated color temperature of ~ 6670 K is obtained. The carbon dots monolithic gel demonstrate a strong fluorescence and make it promising potential in white-emitting LED.
