Targeted therapy is a type of medication that blocks the growth of cancer cells by interfering with specific targeted molecules needed for carcinogenesis and tumor growth,[1] rather than by simply interfering with rapidly dividing cells (e.g.with traditional chemotherapy).Targeted cancer therapies may be more effective than current treatments and less harmful to normal cells.Due to its favorable risk/benefit ratio comparing with standard therapy, it becomes a hot-pursued area for new drug development. In order to speed up clinical development process for targeted therapies, several considerations are to be discussed in this presentation, including design of phase Ⅰ trial, implementation of phase Ⅱ/Ⅲ trials and conducting pharmacoeconomic trial for targeted therapies.
