Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are a group of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) used widely. As additiveBFRs, PBDEs are merely blended physically with the polymer and are therefore more likely to leach out of products and enter the environment.PBDEs are suspected to cause endocrine dysfunction by interfering with the thyroid hormone metabolism, and the combustion of PBDEs could also generate highly toxic photoproducts such as polybrominated dibenzofurans and polybrominated dibenzo-p-dioxins.Hence, environmental PBDE analysis has becoming a problem of great social and scientific concern.
