The fatigue properties of friction stir welds (FSW) in 2024-T4 and 2014-T6 Al-Cu alloys have been investigated. It was shown that the greater welding travel speed 250mm/min would be benefit to increase the high cycle fatigue strength, the rotational speed of stirring tool between 1000 rpm and 800rpm and the surface treatment condition of specimens would have smaller influence on the fatigue strength; when weak-bond defects with a depth of 0.310-0.335mm were presented at the root site of welds, the characteristic values of high cycle fatigue strength would be apparently decreased for 2024-T4 and 2014-T6 friction stir welded joints with a reduction of about 20% and 37% respectively.
