The fast mass and heat transfer in microstructures has led to large variety of micromixers,which are used in a wide range of applications.1-3 To find the right mixer for a specific application,the performance of different micromixer types has to be evaluated.There are several experimental methods4,5 to characterize micromixing performance,yet so far no overview is available.Numerical simulations can be used to analyze the mixing process,but a good measure for mixing is needed.A general overview is provided by comparing data from several mixer characterizations.Furthermore,theoretical mixing measures are reviewed and analyzed to find a measure suitable to describe the mixing process.
