The technique and applications of 3-Dimensional (3D) technology in ecological reconstruction of fossil insects are demonstrated in this report.Three examples are used for demonstration: the 3D ecological reconstructions of Juracimbrophlebia ginkgofolia (Wang,Labandeira,Shih et Ren,2012),and Pseudopulexjurassicus (Gao,Shih et Ren,2012) and Sinoparathyrea bimaculata (Pan,Chang & Ren,2011).We compare the advantage and disadvantage between 2D ecological reconstructions and 3D reconstructions to show an excellent combination of science and art in 3D reconstructions.
