Through the research on the development of high-strength poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) fibers, it was found that the irradiation of carbon dioxide laser to the spinning line at the position immediately below the spinneret and the use of the spinneret of small diameter for the preparation of UDY leads the increases in the strength and toughness of the resultant PET fibers after applying the drawing and annealing processes.
