The Korean Peninsula,situated at the margin of the Eurasian continent,consists primarily of Precambrian basements (Nangrim,Gyeonggi and Yeongnam massifs) and Phanerozoic fold-thrust belts (Ogcheon and Imjingang belts).Tectonic evolution of these terranes and correlation with the Chinese provinces are of prime importance for understanding the continental growth of the Asian continent.In particular,however,the east-ward extension of the Qinling-Dabie-Sulu colli-sional belt in China towards the Korean Peninsula is yet debatable.
