Teacher talk is a language used by teachers in class teaching. It is adopted by teachers to carry out their teaching plans. Meanwhile, teacher talk is the main source of language to students. The perfect organization and instruction of teacher talk can idealize teaching efficacy, and the teacher talk itself is a model of target language, which is an important way of language input for students. Consequently, teacher talk is of crucial importance to both class teaching and students’language acquisition. As teacher talk is the direct and main source for most Chinese English learners to learn the target language, the quantity and quality of teacher talk have great effect on teaching and learning effects.Although teacher talk has attracted much attention, relative researches are mainly about in-service teachers. Less attention has been paid to student teachers. The student teachers of normal universities are not only senior learners of English, but also new teachers who are lacking in teaching experience. This paper tends to do research on teacher talk of student teachers, which is conducted from two aspects, that is the characteristics of both language and interaction. People can get pedagogic implications by analyzing teacher talk. Thus, some necessary actions can be taken to improve student teachers’abilities. At the same time, student teachers can draw some useful conclusions themselves to make greater progress.
