With the enlargement of economic construction, buildings tend to be high, deep, weighty and complex, for instance, some water conservancy structures of massive concrete like dams, ship locks, sluicing buildings, hydropower stations, some foundations in civil buildings like large facilities foundations, box or raft foundation slabs of high-rise buildings, pile-supported beams with highly bearing capacity, foundations of long-span bridges. These are massive concrete structures. Massive concrete has been widely applied to water projects, buildings and transport works. The key issues in the construction of massive concrete are the estimation, evaluation and previous control on the temperature due to its characteristics.Many studies have been performed on massive concrete of water works and concrete structure of small volume. And people have gained some theories and experience on controlling and dealing with creaks. However, some concrete structures like sluices and massive concrete bottom plates are not given much attention to. So great importance should be attached to the problems of great cement consumption and hydrated heat, which result from the application of water-proof concrete with intensity and enriched grout. Based on the structural characteristics of massive concrete in the basement of the terminal building of Guangzhou New Baiyun International Airport, the paper gives analysis and studies on various measures of temperature control, including selection of moderate heat cement, mixing superplasticizer, fly ash, expansion agent, polyropylene fiber, maintenance by covering the surface with water and cooling by piping water, etc. And the papers also make an evaluation on the effect of temperature control. A conclusion of instructing construction practice is drawn,which is of significance to the research on crack prevention in similar cases.
