With the development and progress of Internet and big data technology,e-commerce has become a new form of marketing for enterprises,and also become an online shopping mall for consumers regardless of geographical and time limits.As a result,more and more traditional enterprises begin to engage in e-commerce.China’s rapid development of e-commerce industry in recent years made China’s e-commerce near saturation,so the e-commerce giant began to lay out overseas markets by choosing to cross-border mergers and acquisitions into the cross-border e-commerce platform to expand the international market.At present,the words "Made in China,can be seen on goods all over the world,which means that goods made in China are recognized by the world,and Chinese enterprises need to be supported by a broader and larger cross-border e-commerce platform in the process of setting up brands globally.Therefore,does cross-border M&A of Chinese enterprises has become the main way for Chinese enterprises and Chinese brands to go out is an important problem in international trade.The purpose of this paper is mainly to apply quantitative methods to verify whether cross-border mergers and acquisitions of Chinese e-commerce have promoted the growth of trade between China and the partner countries.To study this problem,on the one hand,it is conducive to the Chinese enterprises to seek appropriate development channels and paths.On the other hand,it can provide reference for the China trade development trend and its optimization and upgrading for the partner country.Specifically,this paper uses the panel data model for a difference in difference(DID)method,and takes the time of Alibaba’s acquisition of Lazada as the time entry point of the DID method.Four ASEAN countries without Lazada are set as control group and six countries with Lazada are set as treatment group.DID analysis of the volume of commodity trade with the classification HS double digit code is carried out,and further research is carried out on the basis of providing a realistic basis for empirical analysis,and in Chapter Three,the current situation of e-commerce development in China and the case of Alibaba,s cross-border merger and acquisition of Lazada,an e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia,is introduced on the basis of providing a realistic basis for empirical analysis.Through the difference in difference model with control variables that we have for controlled other impacts on trade growth..The research conclusion shows that Alibaba’s cross-border mergers and acquisitions have promoted the growth of China’s exports to ASEAN,but haven’t impact on China’s imports from ASEAN.Meanwhile it was also found that the establishment of Lazada also had an impact on trade between China and ASEAN countries.Therefore,after removing Lazada’s establishment effect on trade,the results also steadily show that Alibaba’s acquisition has promoted China’s export to ASEAN.In addition,this paper also using difference in difference model to analyze the type of consume products which Alibaba’s cross-border mergers and acquisitions had effect on.The result show that Alibaba’s cross-border M&A have promote China’s export to ASEAN trade growth in the most of consume product,and promote China’s imports from ASEAN trade growth in the some of consume product.The reason is because Alibaba,s improvement of lazada has affected the whole Southeast Asian e-commerce market,and created more business opportunities for Chinese and ASEAN enterprises,and made bilateral trade grow continuously.Therefore,Alibaba’s cross-border mergers and acquisitions promote the role of different types of goods in the growth of trade between China and ASEAN countries.The innovation point of this paper mainly lies in the innovation of research methods.Because there are few papers have research on the impact of e-commerce on international trade,and with few research use a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods.Moreover,this paper will study the impact of e-commerce and cross-border mergers and acquisitions of e-commerce companies on international trade with these two aspects.So the paper uses DID method to analyze the trade effect between the countries,The study based on the case Alibaba group mergers and acquisitions in the ASEAN e-commerce company in 2016.which is a certain innovative research method,Providing ideas and opinions for related enterprises in the future.
