The discussion of the relationship between reading and writing has been conducted for nearly thirty years. Nowadays, however, numerous composition textbooks based on the reading/writing connection for native English writers exist. And this vitalization of literacy instruction and materials shows the swift of concentration on reading and writing relationship and the application of their connection. Though the number of ESL composition textbooks of this nature is comparatively small. Recently however the "reading/writing connection" has also become a buzz phrase in ESL composition pedagogy. This study is originally constructed to examine the effect of reading on ESL writing proficiency. However, the experiment is restructured and extended because the way that reading is integrated proved to be confounding factors. Through a case study method, the researcher examines aspects of reading/writing integrated composition class, which leads to an exploration of why this integration is beneficial. Although the results raise several issues, the most significant are 1) the influence of reading on the acquisition of ESL composition skills 2) the difference that distinct ways of reading/writing integration make on enhancing ESL composition skills.
