Recent studies have found that bone marrow-derived hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells can continuously implant tumors, participate in tumor stroma and angiogenesis, and persistent inflammatory environments provide potential carcinogenic conditions. The bone marrow-derived stem cells may become malignant tumor-derived cells. VEGFR1+ hematopoietic progenitor cell (VEGFR1+HPC) may play a decisive role in tumor metastasis. Tumor cells first break through the primary lesion, enter the bloodstream, and then stay in another pretransplantation site. In this setting, the tumor cells first establish hematopoietic stem and progenitor cell clusters and grow into tumors.
