英国艺术评论家罗杰.弗莱的艺术美学思想对英国“新传记”代表人物雷顿.斯特拉奇的传记观产生很大影响。弗莱强调的艺术的自律性、艺术对生活的穿透力、艺术的超然性和艺术是艺术家本人的自我表达的观点,为斯特拉奇摆脱传记的功利性影响,实现传记的真实性,把传记重新引入艺术行列提供了理论支撑。但是斯特拉奇的“新传记”在一定程度上也是理想化的传记,因而不能完全脱离社会和个人的影响。
