July 7, 2004, Beijing time 9:49 pm, a distinguished economist has died, like a star that forever from the sky. Having spent 10 years in jail, having never been to a university for a Ph.D., founded an international school, or a Christian, a single element may not be any special. Yang Xiaokai, who is composed of these elements, can not fail to attract any attention. As far as global Chinese economists are concerned, there are only a handful of those who have personal experience and insightful insights into China’s political changes and economic reforms. There are only a handful of those who can make theoretical contributions to modern economics or challenge existing theoretical systems. At the same time with these two conditions, it is even scarce as rare. Yang Xiaokai, the legendary Chinese economist, was fortunate to be one of them.
