Objective To understand the life expectancy of residents in Yuxi City and provide scientific basis for further improvement of average life expectancy of residents. Methods According to the stratification of dam areas, semi-mountainous areas, mountainous counties, and townships (towns), households dying from January 1, 2003 to December 31, 2005 were surveyed, and according to previous census data, they were briefly introduced. The life table [1] calculates the life expectancy. Results The average life expectancy in Yuxi City in 2005, 1989, 1981 and 1975 were 73.59, 68.556, 7.21 and 62.01 years respectively. In 2005, the average life expectancy was 72.23 years in males and 75.97 in females. In 2005, it was 11.58 years higher than in 1975. 30 The average annual increase of 0.40 years. The differences between men and women in Xingmeng, Lishan, Tonghongdian, Qinglong, Lancang, and Yaojie towns with ethnic minorities in the mountainous areas differed by 5.83, 4.75, 7.50, 6.43, 5.47, and 5.25 years from 2003 to 2005; Nagu Town and Tongxiang County The average annual net income of rural residents from 2003 to 2005 was 6,472 yuan and 1,739 yuan respectively, and their life expectancy was 72.63 years and 73.06 years. Conclusion The average life expectancy of residents in Yuxi City is higher than the national average and lower than that in the developed regions in China. The difference in life expectancy between males and females in mountainous townships dominated by ethnic minorities is relatively large; the average income level is not an absolute factor affecting life expectancy. Reducing the gap between the life expectancy of men and women has important implications for further improving the average life expectancy of residents.
