Nearly a century has passed since the development of the avant-garde sound movement in Europe. In Taiwan, however, compression has rapidly taken shape in the more than 20 years since its resolution. In Taiwan’s pre-1987 period of martial law, there were various controls over the “sound”, including publishing, radio waves, assembly and procession, and song review. All these controls not only controlled the people’s thinking but also restricted people’s imagination and acceptance of the sound. For example, at that time, Taiwanese listeners had a functional expectation of their own music and believed that it should bear the mission of rejuvenating the nation, opposing the communist republic, and educating the public.
