The olfactory system plays a crucial role in the mosquito’s search for food, spouses, spawning, habitat, avoidance and information transmission. The mosquito olfactory system currently studied mainly includes olfactory receptors (ORs), odorant-binding proteins (OBPs) and related olfactory receptor neurons. These ORs fall into two categories: one is the traditional odorant receptors (ORx) and the other is the odorant receptor co-receptor (Orco). Studying the function and mechanism of Orco in insect olfactory recognition can lay a theoretical foundation for new pest control measures targeting Orco.
