The Indian government faces the challenge of dealing huge losses in the energy sector. The development of the Balboat project is a major change in the country’s energy strategy. The installed capacity of the project is 2,070 MW, which will boost the country’s economic development when completed. India’s economically exploitable and viable hydropower reserves are estimated to be about 84,000 MW (148,700 MW installed capacity) at a 60% load factor. In addition, an estimated 6 780 MW of small and micro-hydro power are estimated. Has identified pumped storage project dam site 56, with a total installed capacity of 94 000 MW. However, at present, only 15% of the hydropower reserves have been developed and 7% are in various stages of development. It is for this reason that the first public utility company engaged in hydropower development in India, the National Hydropower Company (NHPC), started implementing the 2,707MW Balboat project in three levels. Mainly describes the current construction of the installed capacity of 800MW Balboyd Ⅱ project. Ⅰ level in the survey stage, some environmental issues are not yet clear, may be started later, and so on Ⅲ level survey immediately started. The Balboat Works is located in the Kuru region of Himachal Pradesh, India. The project is located in the mountainous area and covers an area of about 200 km2. This paper discusses the cascade development of the Balboa tributary of the Beas River in the Little Himalayas, and focuses on the technical, economic and environmental issues of the Alberta Class Ⅱ project.
